Thank you to all who came to our unusual event "Dine in the Dark"! From talking to people on the night everyone seemed to really enjoy it. It was a celebration of Torres wine, and their rich heritage spanning a century and a half and four generations of winemaking tradition. Thanks of course to Emma Llorens Torres' talented sommelier and our guide for the evening. Also many thanks to Findlaters wines Torres' Irish wine distributor for kindly sponsoring the wine on the night. Half the proceeds on the night were in aid of Sightsavers Ireland.
So how did it work?
Guests were blindfolded throughout the meal and therefore a principal sense-vision had been removed. Diners would be told when wine was placed at their setting, if it would be at the right or to the left of them, and their hands would be guided to the base of the glass. You would receive a tap on the shoulder when a plate of food would be placed in front of you. Then you would touch the food and proceed to eat it whilst sipping on the wine match. It was more difficult to identify the food and wines than people had anticipated.
Delicious Menu created by our chefs and matching the wines exquisitely
Anna Kurdziel Food Blogger and writer with Yes Chef food magazine was there to experience the event and sums up the experience quite succinctly "It's really surprising how much we rely on our sight when it comes to food. When that sense is taken from us - everything tastes so different, we don't know what to expect! You also appreciate it more when the food is paired with good wine - it makes all the difference!"
Don't forget we hold wine tastings monthly and we send emails out notifying people of wine events. See more and join up here
