“Anyone who tries to make you believe that he knows all about wines is obviously a fake.” ― Leon Adams
We taste wine and regularly spit it but most importantly we just love drinking it. Cliodhna’s interest in wine dates back to the early 90’s when she travelled to France regularly with her Dad Nick sourcing wines for importation for his restaurant. Working in both the UK and Chile, her devotion to the vine is contagious.
The wine list at Sol y Sombra is a labour of love. We believe in taking the mystique out of wine and making it accessible by providing unpretentious tasting notes and information about the wines. Additionally we price our wines to entice customers to experiment with better quality at very keen prices. All our wines are put through a rigorous annual tasting to ensure we are offering the best quality and value.
We import many of our Spanish House Wines. We seek out smaller, lesser known producers making great wines. We usually find them off the beaten track! These are not big brands but wines that embody a sense of place and tradition while showing the character of the wine maker and his/her wine values.
The Wine Club @ Sol y Sombra is a wonderful opportunity for those with an interest in wine to taste a themed selection of wines in a relaxed and sociable environment.
Irish Craft Beer and Cider are the new kids on the block and we are getting very excited by the variety of styles and their suitability for drinking with Tapas. We are proud to support Irish and local pioneering brewers such as our local brewers The Crafty Divils.
We were delighted to be awarded Best Wine Experience in Kerry 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 in the RAI Awards.
